Ahuja Lassi, Amritsar

Ahuja Milk Bhandar at B.K. Dutt Gate is the larger, more relaxed alternative to Giani's. No peda, just very good regular curd lassi in a large steel glass.

The full name is Ahuja Milk Bhandar, which translates to Ahuja Milk Store. Located at B.K. Dutt Gate, Amritsar.

Punjab is well known across India for the quality of its dairy. Fresh milk and milk products are preferred in households throughout the state, and shops like this one are part of the reason why.

More Than Just Lassi

This place doesn't only sell lassi. They also sell paneer (cottage cheese), dahi (curd), and khoya. It's a proper dairy counter, with lassi being the most popular thing on offer.

The Lassi

There's no peda here. This is the regular curd lassi, made in a similar way to the one at Giani Di Lassi: curd goes into a large container, gets churned properly, and is served in a large steel glass.

The large steel glass is exactly what I picture when someone says lassi. I have one of those at home.

The lassi is as heavy as the one at Giani's. The shop itself is larger, which means the crowd is a bit more controlled and you don't feel as squeezed in.

Personally, I prefer the regular lassi over the peda wali lassi. There's a purity to just good curd, well-churned, topped with malai.

Part of the Iconic Lassi Stops of India series.
